DISNEYLAND, THE FIRST - AUGUST 1982

WALT DISNEY'S DREAM CAME TRUE ON JULY 17TH, 1955

Disneyland, Anaheim, was opened to the public on Monday, July 18, 1955, but a special event was held on Sunday, July 17, open only open to invited guests and the media. The first time we visited it, twenty seven years later, we realized that Disneyland Park - partially inspired by Tivoli Gardens (built in 1843 in Copenhagen, Denmark) -, was actually an achievement, whose magnificence could be better understood by adults rather than by children. Almost everything is fake, but that's also part of the dream...

"JUST ARRIVED, early in the morning, for a long day. Unfortunately, the photos from the night parade, taken by Antonio, were all lost..."

"MAIN STREET USA already crowded!"

"COLUMBIA - The original was built at Charleston, South Carolina in 1864, as a strong ironclad for the Confederate States Navy. Later it joined the United States Navy"

"MARK TWAIN RIVERBOAT at Frontierland... It tours for roughly fifteen minutes around Tom Sawyer's island"

"TOM SAWYER'S ISLAND - Escape tunnels, secret passages and swaying bridges..."

"JUNGLE CRUISE - No jungle, no cruise, just fun..."

"FRONTIERLAND - Big Thunder Mountain Railroad"

"TOMORROWLAND - Huge queues to the Monorail"

"MATTERHORN - The quintessence of Fake"
